On Moores Mill Road, Tate Farms closes its 2026 season three times, on three different dates. Most fall guides treat the pumpkin patch as one event with one closing day. The farm's own pages show three separate endings, each with its own ticket and its own crowd. The final one happens a week after the corn maze goes quiet, at a family-style supper table.
Here is how this fall's calendar ends at 8414 Moores Mill Road:
- Friday, October 30. Last day of general admission for the pumpkin patch.
- Saturday, October 31. Pumpkin Destruction Day, which comes with its own ticket.
- Friday, November 6. The last lunch and supper at Tate's Table, which the farm labels "Tate's Table Season Ending."
Each date rewards a different kind of visit. With three weeks left as of this weekend, the order you do them in matters more than it does in early October.
Thirty Seasons From Fifteen Acres
This year has a reason to make a bigger send-off than usual. On its Pumpkin Destruction Day page, Tate Farms invites visitors to "celebrate our 30th year" with the closing fireworks. The farm's About page dates the pumpkin business to 1996, when it started with 15 acres. It now runs more than 80 acres of pick-your-own pumpkin fields and more than 20 acres of play and entertainment space. AL.com tells the origin a little differently. Its 2023 report puts the first patch in 1995 at about five acres. Either way, the patch is about three decades old.
The land itself goes back much further. According to the farm, the Tate family came to Madison County from Warren County, Tennessee, in 1867 and began sharecropping on the current farm site. The farmstead was once a trading hub for local sharecroppers, with a general store, a blacksmith shop, a grist mill and a saw mill. Today the operation covers 10,000 acres of family-owned and leased land in corn, cotton, pumpkins, soybeans and wheat. The farm calls itself North Alabama's oldest and largest retail pumpkin farm.
That history explains the shape of the season's end. The pumpkin patch sits on top of a working row-crop farm, and the farm-kitchen tradition behind Tate's Table is older than the patch. So when the patch closes, the kitchen keeps going.
The Gates Close October 30
General admission opened September 30. Its last day is Friday, October 30. Huntsville Finder's 2026 pumpkin patch roundup lists these hours, based on the farm's posted schedule:
- Wednesday: 1 to 7 p.m.
- Thursday and Friday: 1 to 8 p.m.
- Saturday: 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Sunday: closed
- Extra weekday opening: Monday, October 12, 1 to 7 p.m.
That leaves two regular Saturdays, October 17 and 24, before the season wraps up. The farm advertises live music on Saturdays in October but hasn't posted performers or set times. The 6-acre corn maze closes at 6 p.m. every night, so it's off the table on a weeknight visit that starts after dinner.
Weather has already taken one of the remaining days. The banner on the farm's homepage reads "We are CLOSED 10/10 due to rainy weather." The farm's weather policy says it watches local conditions, has no tornado or safety shelter, may close or pause activities for safety and doesn't refund tickets for bad weather. All tickets are non-refundable. Checking the homepage before you drive over costs nothing.
Here is what a visit costs this year:
Item | 2026 price | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
General admission, ages 2+ | $20 at the gate; $22.45 online, per Rocket City Mom | All activities except apple cannons |
Pumpkin Destruction Day, ages 2+ | $30 | Regular activities plus smash zones and shows |
Season pass with Destruction Day | $60 | All general admission days plus October 31 |
Season pass without Destruction Day | $50 | General admission days only |
Apple cannons | 4 apples for $5 or 10 for $10, card only | Extra |
Monster truck ride, Destruction Day | $10 per person | Extra |
Pumpkins, produce, fall decor, food and items from the Country Store and the Pumpkin & Vine barn store all cost extra.
October 31 Is Its Own Ticket
Pumpkin Destruction Day began in 2018. The farm describes it as the day it caps "the end of each season." The $30 ticket includes the regular attractions and hayrides. It adds smash zones at the back of the farm, where you can take a bat, mallet or golf club to pumpkins on a tee, plus kiddie smash zones for dropping and bowling pumpkins. Only the pumpkins in the smash piles count toward admission. Pumpkins picked in the field or bought at the market are sold separately and can't be smashed.
The schedule also lists three monster truck shows, a "Pumpkin Explosion Show" that uses Tannerite to blow a pile of pumpkins into the air, and a fireworks finale. The farm describes the fireworks this way:
"Brought to you by the team that does Fireworks from Nashville to Gulf Shores, this isn't your mom-and-pop show. Featuring over 10 minutes of fireworks and music it is sure to end your day with smiles and memories."
As of today, the farm hasn't posted show times or the name of the monster truck. It says those details will come closer to the event. Huntsville Finder lists Destruction Day hours as 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The farm's own pages don't confirm that window, so check it before planning around the fireworks.
That makes the season-pass math easy to work out. Two general admission visits plus Destruction Day would cost $70 per person at gate prices. The $60 pass covers all three, so it pays for itself on the third visit as long as October 31 is one of them. The $50 pass without Destruction Day needs three general admission visits to come out ahead. The farm's homepage says season passes must be bought online and that your photo is taken on your first visit and linked to the pass. Prices vary slightly from page to page. Rocket City Mom lists season passes at $50 to $60, and the Destruction Day ticket page shows a higher online price than the $30 posted on the farm's site. Check the checkout total before you pay.
The Table Stays Open a Week Longer
The fireworks end the pumpkin season, but they don't end the farm's year. Tate's Table began in 2022 as a nod to the noon meal the Tate grandparents cooked every day on the homestead, which they called "dinner." The farm compares it to Miss Mary Bobo's in Lynchburg, Tennessee. Seating is by reservation only, either by the seat or by the full eight-seat table. You can ask to add one or two seats, for up to 10, by emailing the farm office.
Each sitting serves two meats, four sides, bread, dessert and drinks. Lunch at noon costs $35.99 and supper at 6 p.m. costs $39.99. The farm says it can't accommodate food allergies or special requests. The menu changes week to week. Four sittings remain, and each one has a different menu:
- Thursday, October 15: smoked BBQ chicken and Southern BBQ ribs, with fried okra and sweet cooked apples.
- Thursday, October 22: Southern fried chicken and pork barbecue, with zucchini lasagna and a Twickenham spinach salad.
- Thursday, October 29: apple cider holiday turkey, baked holiday ham and white chili with chicken. Desserts are pumpkin bread pudding with salted caramel sauce, banana pudding or chess pie.
- Friday, November 6: apple cider holiday turkey and baked ham, a Parmesan and Gruyère potato gratin, Southern green beans and sweet cooked apples. Dessert includes cranberry apple pie with vanilla ice cream.
Every sitting includes the Tate pumpkin soufflé. The November 6 menu reads like an early Thanksgiving, and it comes a week after the pumpkin fields close. The farm's 2026 calendar lists no service after it, including any Christmas dates. Book through the reservation link on the Tate's Table page.
A Sunday Fills the Gap
Tate Farms is closed on Sundays, and one Sunday in the home stretch has its own event nearby. First Baptist Church Meridianville is holding a free Family Fall Festival on Sunday, October 25, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church.
